One of my favorite things to paint is a patio or balcony overlooking a beautiful scene. I like to imagine myself sitting there with a friend, basking in the sunlight.

Scenic Italian Coast

This is a view from the Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio. What can I say? I just hope I did that incredible view of Lake Como justice.

I took a photo of a picturesque small town in southern France called Roussillon, which I used as the background village in this painting. The rest I pieced together, going for the feeling of an idyllic spot with sunflowers in bloom.

Burano is a small island off Venice. After the grays and browns of Venice, Burano appeared as a visual wake-up, a colorful haven. Without a bit of improvisation, I painted directly from a photograph we took. Love the color! This was my first attempt at showing reflections in a large body of water (as opposed to previous paintings of glass or vases, with water).
